Nigeria’s Government Commends Industry Collaboration, Endorses NIGAV’s  Initiatives

The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has through the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, lauded stakeholders in the aviation sector for their commitment to fostering unity and excellence, while pledging support for initiatives driving industry growth and social responsibility. He emphasized the importance of collaboration.

“The unity displayed by airline operators strengthens government efforts to project Nigeria’s aviation sector positively. Such partnerships enhance regional and religious harmony, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.

A statement from Mr. Odutayo Oluseyi, the Ministry’s Head of Press and Public Affairs said

Dr. Kana made this statement in the Permanent Secretary’s office during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Aviation Award (NIGAV) CEO, Mr. Fortune Idu, alongside the newly crowned 2025 King and Queen of the Air and representatives of SOS Children’s Village.

Dr. Kana reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that elevate service standards and passenger experience.

“We endorse noble endeavours like the King and Queen of the Air contest, which exemplifies excellence and unity. The Ministry stands ready to assist in advocacy and awareness campaigns that benefit the aviation community,” he added.

The CEO of NIGAV, Mr. Fortune Idu, highlighted the organization’s 25-year legacy in promoting aviation excellence through events such as the Airport Summit, Drone Tech Expo, and the annual Performance Benchmark assessment which the Minister of Aviation Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), was a  recipient of  the “Aviation Personality of the Year” award. He  noted  the Ministry’s pivotal role in institutionalizing industry standards.

He said the King and Queen of the Air contest celebrates cabin crew excellence and fosters friendship among airlines, enhances the passenger inflight experience, and strengthens the culture of interaction and unity in the industry; adding that the 2025 title holders, Mr. Henry Chika and Ms. Aisha Yakub, were recognized for their leadership and dedication to elevating in-flight service. As ambassadors, they pledged to donate a portion of their privileges to SOS Children’s Villages, underscoring aviation’s role in societal development.

The representative of the Management of SOS Children’s Villages, said SOS became operational in Nigeria since 1973, SOS (Societal Sociale) operates in over 130 countries, providing stable homes, education, and healthcare to vulnerable children. He further emphasized their goal to empower three million children globally.

“Collaborations with sectors like aviation amplify our impact, enabling vulnerable youth to thrive as contributing members of society,” he stated.
