Ibadan Airport’s Upgrade Will Boost Oyo State’s Economy, Says Airport Manager
The Acting Airport Manager of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, Mr. Francis Balogun says the upgrade of the airport from domestic to international airport will boost the economy of Oyo State.
Speaking today at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the upgrade held at the airport in Ibadan, Balogun commended the state government for its role in the construction of aviation fuel farm for the airport in 2023.
In his Goodwill Message, Chairman of the Committee on the airport’s upgrade and former Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Kabir Mohammed said there were plans for the expansion of the runway length and increase of the airport’s apron to 50,000 metres to enable it accommodate widebody aircraft. He said there were also plans to upgrade the airport’s Fire Fighting capacity from CAT 6 to CAT 9 and construct a new cargo terminal.
Overland Airways, Air Peace and GreenAfrica Airways are airlines that currently operate flights to the airport.
