House Committee On Aviation Wants FAAN Board To Review Directorates, Departments
The Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Honourable Abdullahi Garba says ‘to ensure optimal operational efficiency, clarity of roles, and seamless service delivery across all functions, there is a pressing need to critically review and, if necessary, restructure FAAN’s Directorates and Departments. A key aspect of this vital restructuring involves designating the Procurement Department as a full-fledged Department, strategically domiciled under the Office of the Chief Accounting Officer of FAAN, in strict compliance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007. This strategic alignment will not only bolster accountability and adherence to regulatory frameworks but also contribute to a leaner, more responsive structure, leading to significantly more effective and efficient services.”
Delivering his goodwill message today at the opening ceremony of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Governing Board Retreat 2025, themed “Future-Proofing FAAN: Leadership, Modernization & Strategic Renewal,” Garba who was represented by Honourable Festus Akingbaso said the “safety and security of our airports and airspaces must remain non-negotiable. We urge the Board to continuously invest in and uphold the highest standards of safety and security protocols across all Nigerian airports, adopting best global practices to safeguard lives and assets.”
On sustainable aviation practices, he said “in an era of increasing environmental consciousness, promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable aviation operations is not just good practice, but an imperative. Your Board should champion initiatives that reduce carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency, and foster long-term environmental sustainability within FAAN’s operations.”
Tasking the board on passenger experience, he said “the comfort and satisfaction of the travelling public should be at the core of FAAN’s mission. We encourage the Board to explore innovative ways to significantly enhance the overall quality of service and experience for passengers, from check-in to departure and arrival, ensuring our airports are not just transit points, but welcoming gateways.”
He also said “fostering robust collaborations with local and international stakeholders is essential for driving growth and development in the aviation sector. Your Board should actively seek out and cultivate partnerships that bring in expertise, technology, and investment, thereby expanding FAAN’s capabilities and reach.”
