Embrace Weather Reports To Enhance Safety, NiMet DG Tells Stakeholders
The Director General of Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMeT), Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, who is also Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has called on aviation stakeholders to utilise NiMeT products so as to ensure stakeholders, passengers and infrastructure are safe throughout flying experience.
Speaking at the on-going FAAN National Aviation Conferences (FNAC) in Abuja with the theme: ‘Advancing the Frontiers of Possibilities for Safe, Secure and Profitable Air Transport, Matazu said “throughout any aviation development, weather and climate information is critical and we encourage our clients and stakeholders to embrace this, partner with us and let’s ensure stakeholders, passengers and infrastructure are safe throughout flying experience (on-ground, take-off, enroute and landing).
Early warning and detection mechanisms have proven to be the only dependable solution to the hazards of weather and climate. In NiMet, we work round the clock to provide continuous weather information. These weather information are perishable and must be consumed at the right time.
We therefore encourage all our stakeholders, especially Pilots and the Flying Crews to take advantage of our products and services and ensure safety of lives and property at our Airports and enroute destinations. For Seasonal Climate Predictions, take advantage of our mobile app and website for regular information”
Matazu further said NiMet is “at advanced stage of 2022 Maintenance Audits of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 29990:2010 Certifications.”
ISO 29990:2010 certification was gotten in August 2019 for training services at the Regional Training Centre, Lagos; the first and only in Africa . ISO 29990:2010 maintenance Audit was passed in June 2021
“We continue to exploit PPP arrangements for adequate infrastructural developments,” he added.
