FCCPC Expresses Concerns About Flight Delays, Cancellations

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has expressed concerns about the experiences of air travelers in Nigeria, involving flight delays, cancellations and other challenges.

In a Goodwill Message presented by the Head of Lagos Office, FCCPC, Mrs. Susie Onwuka at the 28th edition of the Conference held at Providence Hotel Ikeja, Lagos, under the theme, Aviation Survivability Amidst A Challenging Macro-Economic Environment,” the commission said: “Our data shows a significant increase in complaints related to unfair pricing, delays, cancellations without refund, poor service delivery and inadequate redress mechanisms. In recent times, we also raised concerns about anticompetitive practices in the aviation industry. Anti-competitive practices not only harm consumers but also stifle innovation and hinder industry growth.

To address issues in the aviation industry, the FCCPC is actively engaged in investigations, consumer and business education, and providing redress to consumer complaints. Regardless, we believe that it is only a dynamic and fully competitive aviation industry that can deliver affordable and high-quality air travel services to the Nigerian public.

We are therefore eager and look forward to collaborating with industry players and regulatory agencies to identify and address consumer issues and anti-competitive practices that may impede the sector’s development. Let us work together to build a sustainable and consumer-centric aviation industry.”
