Delta Airlines says it is raising funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and has since 2005, through employees, passengers, their friends and families raised $24 million for research, including $3 million raised in 2022.
The airline has taken the fight against breast cancer to new heights with a range of initiatives on the ground and in the air. In Nigeria, a lower-middle-income country, breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women, accounting for 22.7% of all new cancer cases. With 12,000 deaths in 2018, it also has the highest breast cancer mortality rate of all nations.
Delta will be flying over 4,000 daily flights where its flight attendants will be sporting pink uniform. Meanwhile, a dedicated Pink Plane will be flying to destinations across Delta’s International network as part of the airline’s initiative to raise awareness of the disease and raise funds.
Delta flight attendants will be serving pink lemonade onboard and customers will have the opportunity to purchase different products in the characteristic pink color – from hats, to scarves, to t-shirts, up to themed creations created by Delta employees – to contribute to the cause.
Delta is encouraging customers and those who want to donate to participate by shopping at a dedicated online store, SkyBoutique (deltashop.com).
Delta’s employees are the real driving force behind this initiative, as many of them have been directly affected by the disease.
