Bowen University Honours Overland Airways CEO, Capt. Edward Boyo With Honorary Doctorate
Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria has conferred an Honorary Doctorate, Honoris Causa (Doctor of Business Administration) on Capt. Edward Boyo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Landover Company and Managing Director of Overland Airways in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the aviation industry and exceptional leadership at the University’s 20th Convocation Ceremony.
The Honorary Doctorate recognizes Capt. Boyo as one “whose outstanding contributions to the aviation sector continue to inspire excellence, innovation, and leadership.” With decades of experience in the aviation sector, Capt. Boyo has demonstrated remarkable leadership and vision, driving Overland Airways to become a leading airline in Nigeria.
The conferment ceremony, which was held at Bowen University’s auditorium, Iwo, Osun State on November 1, 2025, was witnessed by family and friends of Capt. Boyo, dignitaries from across Nigeria including the revered monarch, Oluwo of Iwo Land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi and a management delegation from Landover Company and Overland Airways.
In his acceptance speech, Capt. Boyo said: “I am deeply delighted to receive this recognition and wish to extend my gratitude to the leadership of Bowen University for this honour. This honour will spur me further to continue making my contributions to Nigeria’s air transport industry in particular and the economy in general. I assure the Bowen University community that I will be a worthy ambassador of this great institution and continue on the path of excellence, investing in our people and systems to ensure a better aviation sector in Nigeria.”

At the Convocation ceremony, Capt. Boyo rewarded Miss. Lotechukwu Ikpo of Economics department who emerged the overall best graduating student in the University with a 5.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) with a cash donation and scholarship for her Master’s Degree programme.
Capt. Boyo is a leader in the air transport industry in Nigeria and Africa and has made significant contributions to policy formulation in the air transport sector across Africa. He currently serves Africa as Ambassador for West Africa for the Single Africa Air Transport Market (SAATM), a flagship project of the African Union.
He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Overland Airways, an International Air Transport Association (IATA) Member Airline and one of Nigeria’s leading airlines, offering scheduled and charter services in Nigeria and West Africa. Overland Airways is renowned for its reliable services and has pioneered air services to many airports across Nigeria and West Africa. He is a pilot dedicated to the development of Nigeria’s secondary and hub economies through safe, reliable and comfortable air transport services.
He is also the Founder and Managing Director of Landover Company Limited, a leading aviation services company in Africa with headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria founded over 30 years ago.
He is the Publisher of Aviation & Allied Business Journal, Africa’s foremost publication on aviation development published since 1992. Capt. Boyo is equally the convener of the annual Aviation & Allied Business Leadership Conference, Africa’s high-level aviation forum.
An accomplished aviation professional and instructor, he has contributed significantly to the training of professionals and entrepreneurs in the aviation industry in Nigeria and Africa through the Landover Aviation Business School (LABS), a Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and IATA accredited training institution.
He also served as Chairman of the Board, International Aviation College (IAC), Ilorin, Nigeria, an Aviation College in West Africa providing helicopter and fixed wing aircraft pilot training.
A professional with deep roots in African civil aviation, Capt. Boyo has made considerable contributions to aviation regulation and policy formulation within the continent. In the last three decades, he has applied his extensive global network and experience for the advancement of the African aviation industry and presently serves the continent as the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) Ambassador for West Africa.
Capt. Boyo holds an Airline Transport Pilot License, a Flight Engineering License from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a Pilot Instructor’s Certificate from Oxford Air Training School in the United Kingdom. In addition, he holds a first degree in Business Management from the University of Lagos and is an alumnus of the prestigious Lagos Business School’s Chief Executive Programme.
He is involved in several philanthropic activities and has through his companies provided employment to many Nigerians and foreigners. He is a recipient of several national and international awards. Capt. Boyo is married and blessed with children.
