Zamfara Airport Project To Be Completed Soon, Says Governor

The Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Mr. Dauda Lawal says the ongoing airport project in Gusau, Zamfara State will be completed in the next four months.
Speaking today in an Arise Television interview on the need for an airport in the state, Lawal said the state is in need of solid industries and “there is no meaningful investor that will drive all the way by road to Zamfara, considering the insecurity challenges involved” which he said is being addressed. He emphasized the need to open up the opportunity and attract external investors to the state.
Construction works at the airport was launched in June 2024 by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN). The airport project will include the construction of a 3.4-kilometer primary runway suitable for large commercial aircraft, installation of runway lighting, and navigational aids.
Governor Lawal said his government is poised to establish Zamfara state as a compelling investment destination that will attract investments locally and internationally. The project was scheduled for completion in 30 months.
Lawal further said he has increased internally generated revenue from N90 million to over N2 billion within two years and has reduced wastages through measures, including reducing the number of Permanent Secretaries in the state to 20 from 80.
