Uganda’s President Directs Transport Minister To Appoint Girma Wake Airline Acting CEO
President Kaguta Museveni of Uganda has directed the Minister of Works & Transport, General Katumba Wamala to appoint Mr. Girma Wake as Acting Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines until a new CEO is appointed in July 2026.
A letter signed by President Museveni dated February 13, 2026 and addressed to Minister Wamala reads: “I hereby direct that you go ahead and appoint Mr. Girma Wake as a Consultant/Advisor to assist in rectifying a number of management weaknesses in the airline. In addition, he is to serve as Acting CEO until we appoint a new CEO by July 2026 as I have agreed with Ramadhan.
Mr. Girma Wake will work hand in hand with the Board until a substantive Chief Executive Officer is appointed.
I also direct that the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ms. Jennifer Bamuturaki be enabled to step aside immediately and hand over to Mr. Girma Wake and the Board of Uganda Airlines. The Board should go ahead and organize whatever emoluments are due to her.”
President Museveni wrote the letter as a response to the leadership and management weaknesses in Uganda Airlines. Ms. Bamuturaki has been CEO of the national airline since July 2022.
