President Tinubu Commissions Gateway International Airport
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday commissioned the Gateway International Airport, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Speaking during the commissioning, Tinubu commended the Executive Governor, Dapo Abiodun for the airport project which he said would help to grow the country’s economy.
In his remarks, Governor Dapo Abiodun said the airport with close to four kilometer runway, had cargo facilities and state of the art terminal facilities. He said the airport was being commissioned alongside an airline, Gateway Airline, which he said would commence operations with two Bombardier CRJ aircraft.
In a chat with journalists after the event, the Chairman of Air Peace Limited, Chief Allen Onyema described the airport as one of the best highly infrastructured airports in sub-saharan Africa. He said his airline plans to commence direct international flights from the airport to London-Gatwick and London Heathrow, stating that the airport is an airport for the future.
Among dignitaries at the event were the Minister for Aviation & Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and former President Olusegun Obasanjo who said he had landed at the airport directly from Abuja before, and saved 25 minutes of his journey to his home.
