Measures That Can Improve Nigeria’s Airports, By Aligbe
The Managing Director of Belujane Konzult Limited, Mr. Chris Aligbe has proposed measures that he says could help improve airports across Nigeria.
Moderating a panel session on airports revenue planning, viability and development at the 9th Airport Business Summit and Expo held in Lagos on August 20 to 22, 2024 under the Theme: “Airport Viability is Key to Successful Aviation Business Ambition,” Aligbe advised the management of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to based on assessment and experience, develop and offer masterplans to state owned airports instead of waiting for those newly initiated airports to generate masterplans to submit to FAAN, stating that this would help them to develop if approved for operation.
He noted that airports in Nigeria were still one of the most passenger unfriendly airports and that there was need to manage passenger friendliness and give proper orientation to security personnel on relationship and friendliness with airport users.
“AVSEC is not a force but a service. In carrying out their jobs therefore, there has to be proper customer service orientation for those personnel,” he said.
He equally advised that proper due diligence should be done on cargo destinations to ensure cargo opportunities exist before declaring airports as cargo airports.
