Keyamo Says Industry Growth, Performance Are Anchored On Each Player’s Performance Minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN) has said that “this administration believes that industry growth and sustainability are anchored on the excellent performance of every team member of the sector,” adding that “we shall encourage the promotion of excellence strengthening our regulation and oversight of the industry by giving the CAA the best support the Industry has ever seen.” Keyamo who spoke through the Director General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo at the 14″ Nigeria Aviation (NIGAV) Award And Ministerial Dinner held at NIGAV Centre, Lagos, said “there is also an ongoing repositioning of the airport subsector to be more efficient and to serve as a strong bedrock for industry stability.” He commended the objective of the NIGAV AWARD, which he said has become an industry tool for promoting best practices, positive competition, unifying all the sectors and projecting Nigeria’s aviation image. “From the highest ranking staff of the Ministry to the most junior officers in the various sub-units of the aviation industry airports, airlines, airspace, weather, aviation training, insurance, contractors, consultants, etc, your contribution to safer air transportation cannot be ignored, and I want to sincerely appreciate your hand work and patriotism. Theme for this year’s event Foundation for Accelerated Aviation Growth’ (FAAG). This, the organizer has said is to highlight the administration’s achievements over the past year, in establishing the groundwork necessary for positive and sustainable growth in aviation business. Aviation is one of the fastest growing sectors in Nigeria The sector is the primary catalyst for speedy economic transformation. This Industry not only builds the bridge for national social and economic inclusion but also plays a significant role in regional trade integration and serves as the main gateway for global trade. Aviation is key for the African Continental Free Trade Areas Initiative, where Nigeria is expected to lead. This administration understands and appreciates the importance of this sector in fast tracking development and has begun to empower the industry by investing heavily in infrastructure to give it a safe backbone to operating and encouraging public private partnerships At my resumption of office, I created an agenda that our administration would follow and mandated the heads of the agencies to deliver this collective aspiration of making Nigerian air transport a preferred safe mode. We are pushing this vigorously by initiating a fact-based planning programme that will help the industry to succeed sustainably and guarantee a return on investment. In keeping with NIGAV tradition, I hope that at the end of 2025, out performance will surpass what we met, increasing stability and boosting travel confidence and industry growth to earn the NIGAV award accolade. This aspiration will require collective effort and commitment, which I genuinely solicit from everyone in the industry to join hands to deliver a prosperous sector in line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr President Bola Ahmad Tinubu,” said Keyamo. He thanked Mr. Fortune Idu, the Chairman of FCI International Limited/NIGAV Centre and founder of (NIGAV) Award and Ministerial Dinner. Over 60 organizations and individuals won awards in various industry categories in this 2025 edition, rewarding 2024 performance. The categories of sectors include airlines, airports and service providers. The NIGAV award also includes a cabin crew contest for an inflight experience which led to crowing the winners as Kings and Queens of Air. The programme is unique to Nigeria and promotes the unification of the airlines, which Keyamo said the Ministry finds very innovative and commendable. He pledged his administration’s support for the joint industry CSR programme as the King and Queen of the air is noble. He said there is also an ongoing repositioning of the airport subsector to be more efficient and to serve as a strong bedrock for industry stability while all the “agencies under my Ministry are recalibrating to the development trend for prudent management and service delivery.” |
