Keyamo Inducted Into Hall Of Fame As Convener Highlights Way Forward For Industry
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has been inducted into the Nigeria Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHOF) at the 2nd induction ceremony held yesterday at Golfview Hotel, Lagos.
In his Goodwill Message, Keyamo “dedicated this honour to the many aviation professionals, past and present, whose dedication continues to keep Nigeria’s aviation industry moving. I also dedicate it to the younger generation of Nigerians who are entering this industry with new ideas, new technology and new aspirations.”
He commended the founders and organizers of the initiative “for creating a platform that does something our industry must never stop doing, and that is remembering, celebrating and preserving the contributions of those who have helped build Nigerian aviation.
Aviation is not built by aircraft and airports alone. It is built by people. It is built by men and women whose vision, courage, professionalism, innovation and sacrifices have moved the industry forward, often under very difficult circumstances. That is why an occasion such as this is much more than an award ceremony. It is a celebration of legacy.
It reminds us that the work we do today will eventually become part of the history that tomorrow’s generation will inherit. The question, therefore, is not only what we achieve, but what we leave behind.
I am particularly humbled to be counted among those being inducted into this Hall of Fame. I accept this honour with gratitude, but also with a profound sense of responsibility. For me, recognition is not the end of service; it is a reminder that even greater responsibility comes with the privilege of serving our nation.”
According to him, the “permanent Hall of Fame Montage at MMA2 is especially significant. Every day, thousands of Nigerians and visitors pass through our airports. To have the faces and stories of those who shaped our aviation history permanently displayed is a powerful way of saying to the next generation: you are standing on the shoulders of people who came before you,” he said, stressing the need to “recommit ourselves to building an aviation industry that future generations will be proud to inherit, an industry defined by safety, excellence, innovation, integrity and service. To all the inductees, I congratulate you. Your stories are now part of our collective aviation heritage.”
Delivering his speech, the convener, Mr. Wole Shadare said: “As we celebrate our icons today, we must also reflect on the task ahead. Nigerian aviation stands at a critical juncture. To compete globally, we must modernize our training institutes, integrate emerging aerospace technologies, and empower young Nigerian talent to lead. We must continue supporting strong regulatory independence, modern navigational infrastructure, and sustainable management models across our airport terminals and mentorship.
The greatest tribute we can pay to today’s 18 inductees is to mentor the next generation of aviation professionals with the same discipline, integrity, and passion that defined their careers.”
He said “a nation that fails to document, honour, and celebrate its pioneers risks losing the compass that guides its future.
When we launched this initiative, the vision was clear and uncompromising: to create a permanent, dignified, and institutionalized platform where exceptional leadership, selfless service, and transformative contributions to Nigerian civil aviation are recorded for posterity. Today, as we gather here at the Golfview Hotel in Ikeja under our theme, “The Next Generation of Aviation Leaders: Talent, Technology, and Global Competitiveness,” we reaffirm that solemn commitment.”
On Honouring the 2026 Class of Inductees, Shadare said “aviation is not just another transport sector. It is a high-precision, capital-intensive, and highly demanding ecosystem driven by human ingenuity. Every safe landing, every modern navigational advancement, every airport concession model, and every policy breakthrough we debate today rests upon the foundation laid by giants who came before us.
Today, following a rigorous selection process conducted by our independent panel of judges, we honour 18 iconic Nigerians who embody the very zenith of aviation excellence.”
Those honoured include Regulators, Trailblazers, and Administrators, whose policy vision, administrative discipline, and commitment to international safety standards helped build the framework of modern Nigerian civil aviation, distinguished Captains, Engineers, and Flight Operations Specialists, whose technical brilliance, unyielding discipline, and thousands of safe flying hours paved the way for generations of aviators, Posthumous Honourees, whose extraordinary sacrifices and lifelong dedication remain permanently etched into the story of our skies, 16 distinguished inductees and the revered family members standing in for our posthumous honourees.
“This induction is not merely an award. It is an eternal roll call of honour. Your names, achievements, and legacies are forever enshrined in the history of Nigerian aerospace,” said Shadare, adding that “if our younger generation of pilots, engineers, air traffic controllers, and aviation managers do not know who built the industry they inherit, they cannot fully grasp why standards must be preserved at all costs.”
