How Authorities In Singapore Determine Their Aviation Taxes, Charges, Connect Africa, By Envoy
The Special Envoy of the Minister For Transport of Republic of Singapore, YAP Ong Heng has explained that the setting of fees, taxes and charges in that country’s aviation industry is based on transparency, profitability and is cost based, aligning with policy guidelines of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
“We always want to ensure fair competitiveness,” he said, adding that his Ministry has an institutionalized organ that carries out industry consultation process on issues, industry levies, taxes and fees.
Advising African countries on the vexed issue, while speaking at the African Air Transport Convention & Expo held at Hotel2Fevrier, Lome Togo from June 15 to 19, 2026, he said “taxes, fees and levies must be rationalized, some reduced, some removed. Charges must be fair, transparent and remarkable. All government institutions involved must communicate effectively.”
“Today, Singapore is directly connected to Cape Town, Johannesburg and Addis Ababa” and 10,000 aviation professionals have been trained by Singapore’s aviation training institution while scholarships have been offered to next generation of aviation professionals.
