Christmas Unplug Festival: Ibom Air Celebrates International Civil Aviation Day In Uyo
Ibom Air has leveraged on the opportunity of the International Civil Aviation Day to reinforce the fact that Akwa Ibom State has embraced the vision wholeheartedly, steadily positioning itself as an emerging aviation hub by building on the tripod of the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, the airport, and Ibom Air.
The airline on this 2025 edition, engaged stakeholders in a lively, upbeat atmosphere by hosting a musical concert filled with energy, music, and celebration.
For the past seven years, the Akwa Ibom State Government has dedicated the entire month of December, and the first day of the new year to a 32-day festival of lights, music, and communal celebration known as the Christmas Unplug Festival.
Each day is assigned to local governments, industries, and business sectors to highlight their achievements and celebrate their partners and stakeholders. This year, one of those days was allotted to Ibom Air, and the airline fittingly chose December 7, International Civil Aviation Day, to host a memorable concert for the state.
The event featured a headline performance by award-winning artist Patoranking, supported by a vibrant lineup of local talent.
In furtherance of its commitment to community development, Ibom Air presented cash awards to the top three innovators from the recently concluded Uyo Tech Week, an initiative proudly sponsored by the airline.
Addressing the massive turnout, Acting Managing Director and CEO Mr. George Uriesi thanked participants and reaffirmed the airline’s dedication to community growth and social impact. He highlighted the crucial role civil aviation plays in driving regional connectivity and economic development.
Mr. Uriesi also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for dedicating a day to Ibom Air as part of the 32-day Christmas Unplugged Festival. He assured the excited crowd that in 2026, Ibom Air intends to raise the bar even higher
International Civil Aviation Day is observed globally on December 7. According to the United Nations, the purpose of the day is to raise and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of nations, as well as the unique role played by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in fostering cooperation among states and enabling a truly global air transport network that serves humanity.
