Be As Watchful As The Eagle, FAAN MD/CE Tells Graduating 201 AVSEC Cadets
“You, dear Cadets, are our eyes and ears. Commit all our civil aviation regulations to heart and be as watchful as the eagle. Each time a plane takes to the skies or lands safely, acknowledge that you played a vital role in making it happen.”
These were part of the words of the Managing Director, Chief Executive, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku at the induction of the STP 123 Basic Course for 201 Aviation Security Cadets held at Digital Bridge Institute, Oshodi, Lagos.
She said the ceremony not only marks a significant milestone in their careers but also in the journey of FAAN towards bolstering the nation’s aviation security. “It is also one of our strategic responses to the increase in volume of passengers using our airports. Permit me to remind us that the safety and security of lives and property is at the core of our business. As such, we deploy all human and material resources to ensure we provide the nation with the best trained personnel to carry out our various job functions with an emphasis on Aviation Security,” she said.
The STP 123 Course is a residential training programme with a duration of eight (8) weeks designed to help integrate new Cadets into the Civil Aviation Industry to implement, monitor and enforce Aviation Security measures proactively in accordance with locally approved regulations. The new Cadets underwent various security training programs, which include Security Awareness Course, Airport Emergency Response Procedure Training and Leadership Training to improve their leadership skills. They also underwent physical trainings to equip them for the long hours.
“To our new inductees, I congratulate you. Your training has been extensive and challenging, but crucial in preparing you to be the vigilant sentinels of our skies. As you step forward into this noble role, I urge you to embody the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, remembering that the safety and confidence of our passengers rest in your capable hands,” said Kuku, adding that “the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria will continue to prioritize the safety, security and comfort of our esteemed passengers and other stakeholders. Ours is a noble commission and the management and staff are wholly committed to excellence in public service delivery.”
