Barrister Festus Egwarewa Keyamo Appointed As Nigeria’s Aviation Minister
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Barrister Festus Egwarewa Keyamo as Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development.
A Nigerian lawyer, Keyamo was born on January 21, 1970 in Ughelli, Delta State. He had his primary education at Model Primary School and secondary education at Government College, Ughelli, where he obtained the West African School Certificate in 1986.
He gained admission into Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State for his tertiary education where he obtained a law degree in 1992. He was later called to the Nigerian Bar on December 20, 1993.
He first started his law career at the Gani Fawehinmi’s chambers. After two years in Gani’s Chambers, he left to establish his own chambers called the Festus Keyamo Chambers.
Keyamo got married to Mrs. Isioma Irene Keyamo, on May 15, 2004, in Benin City. The six years marriage produced two children: Nicole Keyamo and Festus Keyamo Jnr.
He was counsel to the leader of the Niger-Delta Peoples’ Volunteer Force, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari in his trial for treasonable felony and lead counsel in the treason trial of Ralph Uwazuruike, the leader of the Movement For The Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB). Keyamo was also a counsel in the murder of Bola Ige.
In 2008, he took the Federal Government of Nigeria to court over illegal appointments of service chiefs.
Keyamo was named by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), Nigeria in July 2017 as one of the outstanding Nigerian lawyers to be awarded the rank of SAN.
In 2019, Keyamo was appointed Nigeria’s Minister of State, for Niger Delta. Later, he was redeployed to Ministry of Labour and Employment as Minister of State.
He was a member of President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 Presidential Campaign Team.
