Lawmakers Commence Process On Occupational Safety, Health Bill
The Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards & Regulations, Honourable David Idris Zacharias has said that his “Committee has commenced legislative processes on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Bill,” and that “a motion has scaled through on the floor of the House of Representatives to have a dedicated Budget Line for OSH activities across all” Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
He called on all stakeholders to “to be part of this movement.”
Delivering his goodwill message at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) 2025 Safety Week held in Lagos under the theme, Navigating Conflict for a Safer Aviation, Zacharias stressed the need to punish offenders who disrupt aviation laws and disrupt the system so as to serve as deterrent to intending law breaker.
He commended FAAN for its proactive efforts in fostering a culture of safety, saying though safety is a continuous process, “areas of improvement should be looked into. You are encouraged to sustain partnership among government agencies, operators, and professionals to advance Nigeria’s commitment to global best practices in aviation safety.”
He added that “as representatives of the people, the National Assembly, through the Committee remains steadfast in supporting all initiatives aimed at strengthening safety standards, improving regulatory compliance, and promoting the welfare of workers across the aviation industry and other sectors alike.”
