FAAN MD Allays Fears Over MMA Terminal One Renovation Plans

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku has reassured concessionaires, FAAN partners and stakeholders that the planned renovation of Terminal1 of Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos will not involve a sudden ejection of the terminal’s users but will be done as a phased exercise.

Speaking at FAAN’s 2025 Directorate of Commercial & Business Development (DCBD) Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum held today at Sheraton Hotels, Lagos, Kuku explained that contrary to fears of the terminal’s users, the terminal will not be pulled down suddenly.

“We will renovate the terminal but it will be a major renovation work.”

“The plan is to renovate the terminal but it will be phased,” she said, adding that the renovation will start with the departure terminal.

She said FAAN had intended to start a phase by February 2025 and get it done by December “but we are yet to get approvals.” She also hinted on plans to extend the apron and fingers of Terminal2.

FAAN’s Director of Airport Operations, Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood explained that stages of the renovation plan would involve processes such as getting approvals from the Federal Ministry of Aviation & Aerospace Development, setting up a FAAN committee on the project before commencement and so on. He disclosed that brand new conveyor belts, jet bridges and some other facilities for the renovation work had already arrived the country.

Mrs. Kuku also announced that the contract for the new master plans of Lagos and Abuja airports had already been awarded.

Theme of the Forum was Strengthening Partnerships For Sustainable Growth & Development.

In her welcome address, FAAN’s Director of Commercial & Business Development, Mrs. Adebola Joy Agunbiade said the Forum aims to strengthen stakeholders’ “collective efforts to create a more efficient and business friendly airport environment.”
