Osubi Airport Boosts Patronage With Safety Protocols
The Manager of Osubi Airport in Delta State, Mr. Winston Egwuatu says his airport has been able to build confidence of the airport’s users on safety through the safety protocols and security measures that have been established.
Speaking at the 2026 Airport Business Summit & Expo (ABSE) held at NIGAV Centre, Lagos, Egwuatu who was represented at the event said apart from FAAN Aviation Security at the airport which has a perimeter fence, accessing the airport from the town features an Army Checkpoint and a Police Station, alongside Safety Management Systems (SMS) measures that have been put in place in compliance with ICAO Annex 19 to boost passenger and airlines confidence.
He said the airport recorded a zero percent bird strike for eight months and eventually attracted more airlines because of the record, including United Nigeria Airlines that operates to Abuja and Lagos from the airport. He added that over nine airlines operate into the airport including six commercial airlines that operate daily flights.
He said the former Governor of Delta State once supported the airport with an ambulance while the current Governor has provided Hilux Vehicles for combating bird strikes, adding that regular training is conducted to curb human error in systems operations.
