TAAG Angola Airlines Launches Direct Guangzhou Service, Strengthens Angola – China Connectivity
TAAG Angola Airlines has officially launched its new scheduled service between Angola and the People’s Republic of China, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s international expansion strategy and strengthening ties between two of the world’s most dynamic economic regions.
The occasion was marked by an official ceremony in Guangzhou attended by government representatives, diplomats, business leaders, and strategic partners from both Angola and China, reflecting the importance of the new air link for the development of bilateral relations and economic cooperation. The new route connects Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport in Icolo e Bengo, Angola, with the city of Guangzhou, one of China’s leading economic, industrial, and commercial centres.
Operated with TAAG’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the service enhances connectivity between Africa and Asia while creating new opportunities for travellers, businesses, investors, and cargo operators in both markets. Initially, the route will operate once a week, with departures from Angola on Tuesday mornings and return flights from Guangzhou on Friday evenings, providing a direct and efficient connection between the two countries with strong economic, commercial, and institutional relations.
The launch of the Guangzhou service represents an important step in TAAG’s growth journey and supports Angola’s ambition to further position itself as a strategic gateway between Africa and major global markets. The direct connection is expected to facilitate business travel, stimulate tourism, support bilateral trade and improve cargo transportation between the two countries. The new service comes at a time of increasing economic engagement between China and Africa.
In 2025, trade between China and the African continent exceeded USD 348 billion, reaching a new record high. Angola remains among the leading African exporters to China, alongside South Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with these countries accounting for more than half of Africa’s exports to the Chinese market.
During the same period, Chinese exports to Africa grew by more than 25%, highlighting the continued expansion of trade, investment, and logistics flows between the two regions. With the launch of Guangzhou, TAAG continues to expand its international network and strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading airlines, reaffirming its commitment to connecting Angola with the world.
