United Nigeria Airlines Suspends Staff For Unprofessional Conduct Against Passenger

United Nigeria Airlines says it has suspended a staff member and commenced full investigations into allegations of misconduct by the staff against a passenger with reduced mobility.

A statement signed by the airline’s Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka confirms receipt of the incident report involving a passenger with reduced mobility, Ms. Doris Akonanya, during the check-in process for Flight UN0526 from Abuja to Yenagoa on March 30, 2026. This report includes allegations of unprofessional conduct by a particular staff regarding her condition.

Uloka states: “We take this matter very seriously. The safety, dignity, and well-being of all our passengers remain our highest priority. We operate a zero-tolerance policy for any form of misconduct, discrimination, or abuse, and we are firmly committed to providing safe, respectful, and accessible travel for all, particularly passengers with reduced mobility who require additional care and support.

We sincerely apologize to Ms. Akonanya and her family for the distress this incident has caused. This experience does not reflect our ethics, values, vision, or the standard of service we are committed to delivering to all travelers. Since the incident, our team has remained in direct contact with the passenger and her family, extended our apologies, and ensured that their concerns are addressed, support is provided, and they are kept fully informed of the steps we are taking.

While the staff member involved has been suspended and a full investigation commenced, we are engaging all relevant parties to establish the facts and will take appropriate action in line with our policies of zero tolerance to any form of misconduct. United Nigeria Airlines remain committed to fostering an inclusive travel environment where every passenger is treated with dignity and respect, and will continue to strengthen our training, processes, and oversight to prevent a recurrence.”
