We Want Airports Development Linked To Community Development, Says Lagos Governor
The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says it is important to handle airport development as “a broader plan for community development rather than as a single project.”
Speaking at the FAAN National Aviation Conference (FNAC) 2025, organized by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in Lagos, Nigeria, November 17 to 18, 2025, under the theme, Elevating The Nigeria Aviation Industry Through Investment, Partnerships & Global Engagements, Sanwo-Olu said because Lagos lies below coastal lines and there are rising sea levels, “we need world class infrastructure that is climate smart.”
He noted that the same success that has made Lagos a regional hub over the years has also created constraints of larger aircraft, more demanding passengers and other constraints.
He said airport is the anchor of a broader logistics and a connectivity platform and “one airport cannot and should not carry the full weight of a national connectivity.”
He said the federal government has granted Lagos State approval for an airport, a code F compliant facility, located less than five kilometers from Lekki Free Trade Zone, with capacity to land A380 aircraft. “We will complement the efforts of FAAN,” he said.
