Safety In Aviation: Kuku Wants Stakeholders To Shift From Siloed Efforts
The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku says “safety is collective and so must our response be. We must shift from siloed efforts to integrated safety strategies, where security agencies, airlines, handlers, concessionaires, unions and the regulator work in complete synergy.”
In her remarks at the grand finale of the executive session of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) 2025 Safety Week held in Lagos under the theme, Navigating Conflict for a Safer Aviation, Kuku, who was represented by the FAAN Director of Human Resources & Administration, Dr. Emiola Olatubosun Luqman said no single organization can build safety in isolation.
“I urge all stakeholders to view this forum not merely as a closing ceremony, but as a renewed call to action, to stand united against threats to operational harmony, to speak with one voice on safety, and to lead with purpose,” she said, adding that although the aviation industry is technically sound and highly regulated, it is increasingly confronting behavioural and interpersonal challenges. Incidents involving unruly passengers, staff conflicts, stakeholders tensions, and non-compliance with safety protocols threaten to undermine the hard-earned progress we have made in safety and service excellence.
We must recognize that conflict is not a disruption. It is a reality. What matters is how we respond.”
