Jibodu Urges Government To Encourage Existing PPPs To Attract More Private Investments

The Chief Operating Officer of Bi-courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport2 (MMA2), Mr. Remi Jibodu has said that government’s encouragement of existing Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangements will attract more private investments.

Speaking at the 29th Annual Conference of LAAC with the theme, “Aviation Financing in Nigeria: The Risks, Opportunities and Prospects,” Jibodu said “we must be able to encourage the existing PPP as we speak today so that other investors also will be encouraged to come into the industry and invest.”

He said there is need to reduce bureaucracy, “so people that want to set up an airline or want to set up an airport, it should be able to make it easy for them.”

On airlines, Jibodu said “government must find a way to see that the airlines in Nigeria are very competitive because it is not about the person that owns the airline or the company that owns that airline. It’s about Nigeria. It’s about the citizens of Nigeria, to be able to move around easily and otherwise. Passenger experience is key, and that will not happen if the airlines cannot be able to survive.”

He also said MMA2 has capacity to host regional operations. “We as MMA2, we have the capacity to run a regional airport, I mean regional operations today. If you want to start, say, we can start in 24 hours. We can start that because the facilities are already there. You know, it has been there for a very long time. So, all you need to do is just to give us that information and we’ll plan for it.”
