Freetown Airport Records 85% Passenger Increase In Seven Years
The Senior Technical Adviser To The Minister Of Transport & Aviation in Sierra Leone, Dr. Alfred Forde says the passenger traffic at Freetown International Airport has increased from 140,000 to 220,000 between 2017 and 2024, a seven year period.
Speaking at a reception welcome held for Overland Airways on its inaugural flight between Lagos and Freetown with a state-of-the-art Embraer 175 aircraft, Forde said the government entered into an agreement with SUMMA after 2017 to build the current state-of the art airport and that this has contributed to the passenger increase record.
Forde said after the ICAO Audit of 2023, the score was 70% on implementation and 71% in terms of Aviation Security.
He said the Sierra Leone tourism potentials are largely untapped and thanked Overland Airways management for choosing Sierra Leone as one of its destinations because it would help its tourism development.
