Government Implements First Item In ASRTI Communique From BBM On Cape Town Convention

The Federal Ministry of Aviation & Aerospace Development in collaboration with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) today commenced implementation of  the first item in a communique issued after the Quarter3 Business Breakfast Meeting (BBM) of Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI) on November 28, 2024 which reads: “To maximize the benefits of signing the Cape Town Convention Practice Directions, all-inclusive consultations and enlightenment sessions should be held with aviation stakeholders, judiciary members, and legal practitioners. The Practice Directions must be examined, lapses addressed, and training workshops for all interested parties must be included for implementation.”

A conference on “Convention Of International Interests In Mobile Equipment And The Protocol On Matters Specific To Aircraft Equipment” is underway at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. It is organized by the NCAA and the Ministry of Aviation & Aerospace Development

Vice President Kashim Shettima is being represented at the event by the Minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN). Other stakeholders in attendance are the Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, executives of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Sales Director for Africa, Boeing, among other stakeholders.

A team representing the Attorney General of the Federation is led by Dr. Princess Chukwuani.

It could be recalled that ASRTI on November 28, 2024, brought stakeholders and aviation lawyers together at Golfview Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos to discuss a theme: “Cape Town Convention: The Implications Of The Cape Town Practice Directions On The Fortunes Of Nigerian Airlines And The Economy.” A communique was issued thereafter.
