Bellagio Air Chairman Identifies Airlines’ Revenue Source Alternatives To Flight Tickets

The Chairman of Bellagio Air Limited, Dr. Oludare Akande has proposed possible sources of revenue for local airlines in Nigeria besides selling of flight tickets.

Speaking during the panel discussion session at the South West Regional Transportation Summit held in Lagos by NCAA, Akande said making the right choice of aircraft for the appropriate route to be operated, can save some revenue for an airline.

For maximized use of commercial aircraft in a country like Nigeria where local airlines cannot operate night flights, he suggested the use of same aircraft for night operations outside the country, before operation of flights during the day within Nigeria. This he said, prevents under-utilization of aircraft and waste of resources, so the aircraft is not left on ground when it should be flying.

He also advised that though fuel costs are high in Nigeria, airlines should audit their fuelling, check possible shortage areas and deploy technology to cut costs and reduce redundancy.

Akande also suggested adoption of customer loyalty programmes, which can possibly generate revenues more than ticket sales  as is done by airlines in the United States of America, where some airlines even have loyalty directorates.

According to him, airlines also generate revenues from gift cards offered to loyal customers on their birthdays at token rates.
