ICPC Conducts Anti-Corruption Seminar/System Study At Ibadan Airport

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in collaboration with FAAN Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) on July 19, 2024, conducted a comprehensive system study at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan.

The initiative focused on combating corruption within the organization, beginning with an informative session held at the Firebay.

The event commenced with preparatory exercises to engage participants, leading up to the main lecture titled “CORRUPTION IS A VIRUS,” highlighting strategies for eradicating corruption in the workplace and the environment.

Dr. Mrs. Njideka Nwobu, representing ICPC in the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), delivered a detailed presentation. She covered the nature and examples of corruption, discussed the Seven Deadly Sins (SDS) of corruption, explored social factors influencing corrupt behavior, and proposed actions to eliminate corruption in the workplace.

A significant portion of the session was dedicated to the theme “INTEGRITY MY WATCHWORD.” Dr. Nwobu elaborated on the acronym and definition of integrity, its relevance in the workplace, identifying traits and attributes of individuals with true integrity, stressing its importance in personal and professional life. Practical steps on enhancing integrity in the workplace, as outlined in distributed handbooks, were also discussed.

Attendees were subsequently required to undergo a test meeting ICPC standards, aimed at reinforcing anti-corruption knowledge and principles.

Furthermore, all staff members present were encouraged to anonymously submit complaints and challenges they encounter at the airport via a designated form. These submissions will be forwarded to headquarters for thorough review by management.

The seminar underscored ICPC’s commitment to fostering a corruption-free environment and promoting ethical standards within governmental institutions.
