Lagos Aviation Academy Opens Bigger Facility, More Classrooms, Targets Development Of Professionals
Lagos Aviation Academy (LAA) yesterday, opened a bigger facility at Emina Crescent, Off Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos, with the Group Managing Director of the institution, Mr. Bernard Bankole, committing to development of professionals that would add value to the air transport industry within and outside Nigeria.
In his welcome speech at the event attended by a representative of the Director General, Civil Aviation at Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Barrister Bukola Teriba and the President of National Association of Nigeria travel Agents (NANTA), Mr. Yinka Folami, Bankole said LAA, which had already graduated over 2000 students, now had a new facility of eight classrooms that can take between 40 and 50 students at a sitting, as against the four classrooms at the previous location.
“The number we have is something we can cover within the next one or two years because we can run courses concurrently now without any hindrance. We have a bigger facility. For our students coming from outside the state, we have accommodation for them and the accommodation has electricity 24/7 with full internet. The accommodation can take 30 students at a go,” he said.
Bankole said the initiative started in 2017 when he was NANTA President and learnt that constant training in the aviation industry could only hold in 10 Aviation Training Centres (ATCs) IN Nigeria and decided that LAA had to become an 11th one.
“Humans are the greatest assets any organization or country can have. We realized that in our little capacity, we can try as much as possible to see how we can develop people that will add value, not only in our industry but also to the rest of the world,” Bankole said.
He further stated that LAA would collaborate with NANTA as a body interested in improving knowledge base, to increase the level of professionalism among travel agencies. He equally advocated mass production of professionals in Nigeria for export as is done in some other countries.
In his speech, the Head of School, Mr. Bolade Durojaiye said the minimum requirement for enrolment is O’Level certificate, adding that LAA was already in partnership with travel agencies for internship opportunities for students, adding that airlines had already engaged some LAA students.
Basic Ticketing & Reservation Course will commence from July 1st to 5th, 2024.
