Nigeria Looks To Improve Air Safety In West Africa

The Director-General, Civil Aviation (DGCA), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu says “Nigeria is keen on improving air safety in the West African region. Apart from the region, we also want to ensure that African airspace is safe at all times. We need to consistently improve our relationships on the continent, starting from the region.”
Speaking during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Benin Republic on Aeronautical Search and Rescue (S&R) on August 3, 2003, Nuhu who signed the MoU on behalf of Nigeria in Cotonou, Benin Republic, said that this relationship would further enhance air safety operations in the region, especially between the two countries.
In his comment, Mr. Karl Legba, the Director-General, Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC), Benin Republic who also signed the Mou on behalf of his country, lauded the Nigerian Government for always playing leadership role in civil aviation in the region and the continent as a whole.
Nuhu stated that the partnership on air safety between the two countries was long overdue, adding that Nigeria would also go further by signing such an agreement with its other neighbouring African countries.
Nigeria signed similar agreement with Togo on August 4, 2023 at ANAC, Togo headquarters, Lome. Capt Nuhu and his Togolese counterpart, Director, ANAC, Togo, Col. Latta Gnama signed on behalf of their countries.
SAR with Tchad has tentatively been scheduled for August 15, 2023 while Cameroon would follow.
