What Spring Alliance Has Done For AON

The Vice President of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Mr. Allen Onyema says the partnership alliance signed in March 2022 by six Nigerian airlines has enabled healthy cooperation among the airlines.
Onyema was speaking yesterday where he came to represent the AON at the Quarter 1, 2022 Breakfast Business Meeting of Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI) held at Golfview Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos with the theme, Economic Implications Of Multiple Entry Points by Foreign Airlines Into Nigeria.
He said: “the alliance has eliminated the devilish competition that existed between us before.”
Six Nigerian airlines had reminiscent of global airline alliances like Star Alliance, One World, and SkyTeam, signed an agreement called Spring Alliance. The carriers signed the agreement in Lagos, Nigeria. They are Azman Air, United Nigeria Airline, Arik, Air Peace, and Max Air. They had inked the deal to mutually support one another’s operations and improve service delivery. Onyema cited various instances of how the airlines have been cooperating since the deal, referred to as the Dome Accord, was signed at Dome Hotel.
On the proposed national carrier, Onyema said AON was not against the establishment of the airline but that the modalities for setting it up should be favourable to Nigerian airlines and the economy.
AON requested that a raw cash of $200 billion should be first deposited through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by any foreign airline interested in the 49% ownership of shares in the proposed airline.
On the granting of multiple entry points to foreign airlines flying into Nigeria, AON wants an immediate scrapping of such grants.
