Igbokoda Crash: Aeronautical Engineers Want Comprehensive Review Of Flight Safety, Operational Procedures

The Institute of Nigerian Aeronautical Engineers (INAE) has called for “a comprehensive review of flight safety, including maintenance, airworthiness and operational procedures” following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft Reg No NAF 931 at Igbokoda, Ondo State, on October 5, 2026.

A statement signed by INAE President and Chief Executive, Engr. Dr Ebitei Charles says INAE “extends its deepest condolences to the Nigerian Air Force, the families of the 25 persons who lost their lives and the nation.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and with the officers and men of the Service, who serve our country with dedication and sacrifice,” it states, adding that “the Institute welcomes the Presidential directive for an investigation and calls for it to be thorough, transparent and timely, so that lessons can be learned and a recurrence prevented. We also urge a comprehensive review of flight safety, including maintenance, airworthiness and operational procedures.

As the professional body for aeronautical engineers in Nigeria, the Institute is committed to upholding high engineering standards, professional competence and a strong safety culture in aviation. In that spirit, INAE stands ready to offer its general technical expertise and professional support to the Nigerian Air Force and the relevant authorities, should it be required. We pray for the repose of the souls of the departed and for comfort to all who mourn.”
