TAAG Assumes AASA Chairmanship As Angola Hosts AGA

TAAG Angola Airlines has reached another significant milestone in strengthening its presence and influence within the African aviation sector.

During the 56th Annual General Assembly of the Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA), held October 10, 2026 in Mauritius, the airline’s CEO, Miguel Carneiro, was elected Chairperson of AASA for the 2026/2027 term.

AASA is the leading airline association in Southern Africa, bringing together airlines, airports, regulators, and key industry stakeholders to promote regional cooperation, air connectivity, operational safety, and the sustainable development of air transport.

During the same forum, it was also announced that Angola will host the 57th AASA Annual General Assembly in October 2027. This double achievement represents important recognition of TAAG’s growing role in African aviation while further enhancing Angola’s visibility among the industry’s leading decision-makers.

Holding the Association’s chairmanship will enable TAAG to play a more active role in the discussions and initiatives shaping the future of regional aviation, further strengthening its position among airlines, regulators, and international partners.

Likewise, hosting the next Annual General Assembly in Angola will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the country, highlight the progress of its aviation sector, and reinforce TAAG’s standing as one of the region’s leading carriers. This election, together with the selection of Angola as the host country for the next AASA Annual General Assembly, reflects the industry’s confidence in TAAG’s transformation journey and in the contribution the airline can make to the continued development of aviation across Africa.

AASA’s incoming Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson were elected at this event and will serve for the next 12 months. Mr Miguel Caneiro has been elected as AASA’s Chairperson. He is the Chief Executive Officer of TAAG Angolan Airlines. Dr Bao Mosinyi , General Manager of Air Botswana, was elected to service as the Deputy Chair.

“Miguel and Bao will provide guidance and support to AASA in our ongoing engagements with governments, aviation regulators, airport operators, air navigation service providers and other relevant role players in our advocacy work. Our goal is that policy, regulations, services and aviation infrastructure support and promote competitive, financially viable and environmentally sustainable, secure and safe air transport with comprehensive intra-African connectivity,” said AASA CEO, Aaron Munetsi.

AASA’s 2026 annual general assembly was held in Mauritius and sponsored by Airlink and South African Airways. It was attended by over 200 delegates representing airlines, airports, air navigation services, civil aviation regulatory authorities, aircraft and engine manufacturers, industry suppliers and other stakeholders.
