Ibom Air, Part Of Akwa-Ibom State’s Achievements In 39 Years, Says Airline

Ibom Air has joined millions of Akwa Ibomites and Nigerians worldwide in congratulating His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno (PhD), his Cabinet, and the good people of Akwa Ibom State on Akwa Ibom State’s 39th anniversary, stating that among the many achievements that have emerged from the strategic direction of the state is Ibom Air, the State-owned airline established to enhance connectivity, stimulate economic activity, and demonstrate Akwa Ibom’s capacity to build and sustain world-class institutions.

A statement signed by Ibom Air’s Group Manager, Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essienette says “since its creation in 1987, Akwa Ibom has earned a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most forward-looking states through sustained investments in infrastructure, human capital, healthcare, education, aviation, tourism, and economic advancement. Today, the State continues to build on this legacy through the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, creating opportunities for its people and laying the foundation for lasting prosperity.”

Ibom Air says since it commenced operations in 2019, it has “safely operated more than 65,000 flights and carried nearly five million passengers, connecting Akwa Ibom to major destinations across Nigeria and West Africa. The airline has grown its fleet to ten aircraft and now serves seven domestic destinations and one regional destination, supporting trade, investment, tourism, and business travel.

Ibom Air also reflects the Akwa Ibom State’s commitment to empowering its people. Hundreds of Akwa Ibomites currently serve in leadership, flight operations, engineering, customer service, finance, and technical roles within the airline. Through strategic training programs supported by the Akwa Ibom State Government and Ibom Air, young professionals from the State have received world-class aviation training in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and France, helping to build a new generation of highly skilled aviation professionals.

The airline’s impact extends beyond aviation. Through its operations and supply chain activities, Ibom Air has injected over ₦60 billion into the local economy while supporting thousands of indirect jobs, creating opportunities for businesses and communities across the State.
